Plumbing and Hydronic Heating

Instruction in the plumbing aspect of this program will be concentrated on sanitary drainage systems, piping systems for hot and cold water, domestic water systems, piping for compressed air and gasses, corrosive and inflammable fluids, gas fittings, gas appliances, plumbing fixtures, pumps, and restaurant and kitchen equipment. Related instruction will cover the design of such systems as they pertain to the sanitary codes and laws governing the trade.

Instruction in heating will include hot water heating systems design, heat calculations, boiler sizing and selection, pipe sizing and layout, radiators, convectors, unit heaters, and similar equipment. Threading pipe, welding pipe, sweating, and other piping methods will also be taught.

Graduates of this program may enter the workforce as apprentice plumbers, apprentice pipe fitters, and technicians. Job opportunities are expected to stay strong in this field. Shop related hours are approved by the Massachusetts Board of Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters.
