Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration

In this program, students are trained to install, repair, and maintain cooling, heating, air handling, humidification, filtering, and refrigeration equipment including motors and controls. Applications are used emulating those found in residential, commercial, and industrial sites. Electrical, electronics, hydronics, air conditioning, refrigeration, solar geothermal and thermodynamics are taught. Students are exposed to energy conservation theory and equipment as well as energy management techniques and equipment.

A substantial component of instruction will be provided in chemistry, the physics of heat, fluids and gases, the mathematics of heat gains and losses, and engineering design of heating and cooling systems.

Apprentice licenses are issued to deserving seniors upon successful completion of the four-year curriculum. Apprenticeship time must be served following graduation in order to obtain a journeyman’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
